To show how much we love reading in 2SK, we had a reading morning on Wednesday. We invited our grown-ups, had juice and biscuits then settled down with a good book or magazine.
We enjoyed it so much we didn’t realise how fast 30 minutes went! Have a look at a few of the pictures of us reading.

It’s only a few weeks now until we get to show off what we’ve learnt when we do our SATS. I know you’re all superstars and have made lots of progress and now it’s time to practise all the skills you’ve learnt so far. Why don’t you try out some of these websites. There’s lots of things to do and some cool games to play.

Let me know what you think to them. Have fun!

Despite the rain, we had a fun day out today at Tropical World and Roundhay Park. We experienced different environments and saw lots of different animals and insects.

I liked the bats the best because I thought it was funny when they were upside down! What was your favourite thing to see?

Hi guys!

Hope your all having a fun holiday and enjoying the snow! We talked before the holidays about our new topic, Things that go bump in the night and I wanted to know what you already know about nocturnal animals?

I look forward to your comments,

Mrs Kew

We had a very busy day today, we walked down to New Cross and started by doing some acting. We played some warm up games to get all the muscles in our face stretched. We then had to mime, we found it very hard to not make a noise whilst doing it!

After warming up we learnt how to mime, we had to pretend to be doing something without making any sounds. It was very hard to keep silent! The other groups had to guess what we were acting out, do you think you can guess too?

After lunch we went to the see the Animal Roadshow, we didn’t know what animals we would see and there was a lot of surprises!

After the great start to SMILE week, we couldn’t wait to see what we were going to do today. Tuesday was our Learning Challenges day and we started off with games all about shapes. We had to guess the shapes by asking questions and giving each other clues. We had to use all our listening and thinking skills to work out the right answer.

We played some team games which made us better as a class – we had to spin the bottle and then say something nice about the person it landed on. We then had to trick each other whilst we tried to steal other children’s numbers.

To give our brains a rest we went to Year 5′s smoothie bar. We felt very posh sitting and ordering our drinks and they were very yummy when we got them, Mrs Kew was sneaky and had 2!

After play it was time to switch our brains on again by doing the alphabet key. We had to think of an animal beginning with each letter of the alphabet, it definitely made us think and we had to work in our teams to make sure we had thought of everything!

It was time to give our brains another rest by doing some dancing, we had to watch the moves on the screen and try to follow them. We had fun and laughed our socks off!

Yepee! It’s SMILE week! We started the week with our Finding out and Explaining day. We did lots of Finding out and Explaining activities, remembering to be the best we can be! Here are the activities that we did today;

Helping the princess – we had to work as teams to rescue the princess that was put in the tower by the naughty dragon. The structure we built had to be 1 metre tall and be able to stand up on its own. It was quite tricky and we had to make a few changes until we got it right. We were very proud of ourselves when we managed to save her. What do you think of our structures?

We tested our determination by making paper planes. It may sound easy but the instructions we had to follow were pretty tricky! We found it quite hard but we did not give up and all ended up with a plane that we could fly. We then had to try and explain which plane flew the furthest and why.

In the afternoon we worked in teams again to be inventors. We had to invent something new that would help us with our learning. We had to talk, plan then build our inventions.

Once they’d all been made we had to explain to the rest of the class what they did and why. They could also ask us questions about it which we had to answer.

After working with Dave last week to decide on the setting for our story we then worked with him to think about who our characters will be. We had to think about all their features, their eyes, nose, mouths and ears and what they act like. Are they are nice character, sneaky, mean, friendly? We used lots of adjectives to describe our characters. We even got to dress up as different characters!

Last Friday, we worked with Dave to create settings for our dragon stories. We used what we had learnt on our trip and created large and small landscapes that we can use to tell our stories. Dave even helped us do some ‘word art’ where we made a map of the cave and hills just using adjectives on coloured paper. Take a look at our photos to see what we did that day. Keep watching to see our photos from this Friday when we will be working with Dave again to create our characters.

We found out that dragons are nocturnal so only come out at night so to see a dragon you’ll have to go camping at night.
To do this we need a tent but I don’t know what to material to use to make it.
Our Science investigation this week will be about finding the best material to make a tent. What do you predict?
